2024 Quantum Day

Introducing the Quantum Loop app—an innovative platform poised to redefine how we engage with quantum science and technology.

Inspired to fulfill a vision to make quantum knowledge accessible to all, our project emerged as a response to the Quantum Computing Hackathon, where a 5th-year Physics Ph.D. student speaker challenged us to answer the need to educate undergrads and the general public – one of the primary objectives of the forthcoming International Year of Quantum Science and Technology.

Our journey began with a simple yet powerful realization: the transformative potential of quantum science remains largely untapped by the general public due to its perceived complexity. Armed with this insight, we set out to bridge the gap between quantum research and everyday influences of quantum science, leveraging an iPhone app to create a conduit for quantum education. The name of the app itself—Quantum Loop— is meant to capture the essence of perpetual exploration and boundless potential inherent to the field of quantum science.

Designed to be a gateway to the world of quantum science, which I found so captivating after first being introduced it in an attempt to support my friends who ran the Quantum Computing Club, Quantum Loop will offer users news articles, insightful videos, and in-depth explorations of quantum’s impact across diverse sectors such as finance, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals—all conveniently accessible on their iPhones. Developing a prototype/proof-of-concept for the app was challenging as we navigated constraints such as limited access to traditional development tools. However, we overcame these obstacles through resourcefulness and plan to use collaboration across various student clubs, academic departments, and institutions like the Morehead Planetarium to bring our vision to fruition.

Established media platforms like Medium and Associated Press informed our approach to Quantum Loop, aiming to attain a unique blend of accessibility with our content’s academic rigor.
