About Me
I have lived in the vibrant Raleigh area for the past five years, enjoying the company of my wife, who is also an educator, and our dog Murphy. In my free time, you’ll find me playing video games, going hiking, riding motorcycles, and watching Youtube DIY videos for things I will probably never have time to do. I’m passionate about exploring emerging technologies, such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and thinking about new ways these innovative tools can successfully be implemented into instruction.
I have spent the last decade as an educator, the last five teaching high school in North Carolina. My professional journey began teaching English to students in South Korea. I love thinking about how I started my teaching career in a classroom in Korea with no access to instructional technologies, and not even easy access to a printer. I had to be very creative in the activities I did with my students on a whiteboard and paper! Over the last two years, I have fully immersed myself in cutting-edge educational technology. My experiences have ranged from creating AR artifacts, streamlining processes for K-12 educators to integrate AR and multimedia into their classrooms, using ChatGPT to create workflows using Python, designing my own XR environments, and now creating an instructional course in virtual reality.
While the term “lifelong learner” might be cliché, it accurately describes my approach to both my personal and professional development. My program director recently called me a “tinkerer,” which I believe captures my passion for learning and my interest in expanding my technological skills by exploring them with a hands-on approach (and Youtube). As I embark on a new career path, I am excited to combine my existing skills with my knowledge in design, technology, and education to create innovative solutions that can transform the way we learn and grow.
