Title: New ideas on label propagation in networks

Abstract: We will present some new ideas that is a work in progress on quantifying influence propagation in networks.  This algorithm is being developed with Zach Boyd, Nico Fraiman, Peter Mucha and Braxton Osting.  The key ideas involve introducing a new energy functional on the graph relating to the notion of simplex defined harmonic maps.  We introduce a regularized version of our energy that ends up being a convex optimization problem amenable to fast numerical methods and having unique optimizers!  We will demonstrate the algorithm on some synthetic examples that highlight how it can pinpoint interesting features in the network and ways the algorithm responds to other labels relative to the graph geometry.

The talks will be both in-person at Chapman Hall 435 and on Zoom: https://unc.zoom.us/j/96417451559.
