Project Introduction

Project Overview:

This is an iOS application that is being developed to assist in Neuroimaging and accuracy of tracking on surgical instruments to help a surgeon prepare for surgery.

Project Description:

The Neuronavigation app is a mobile iOS application that assists with neurosurgery. The current machinery used for tracking and modeling CT scans are very costly and the machine itself has a relatively large scale of size. The software that is being developed is aimed to replicate and replace this multi-million dollar medical machine that is the commonplace machine used to model CT images to prepare neurosurgery, through processing these images through an iPhone camera. A combination of facial recognition and the scanned imaging from CTs’ would work to greatly increase accuracy of the models that would be presented.

This app would significantly reduce the costs for the hospital. As the technical requires would become just simply owning an iPhone on a tripod and an apple watch strapped to the surgeon’s arm. However, the imaging and tracking contains noise which affects accuracy and impacts the necessary results. The next steps for this project is to reduce the noise and tracking using an apple watch streamlining acceleration data and implementing levels of active Kalman filtering for imaging and medical device tracking.
