CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Orange County Clerk of Superior Court Mark Kleinschmidt is advising residents to plan ahead as local courts prepare to move files online.
The updates are part of North Carolina’s new eCourts system. The program launches in 10 counties, including Orange, on Monday, April 29.
Kleinschmidt says people should be aware that most online services, including credit card payments, will be down during the transition in the last two weeks of April.
“If you don’t have to have court business, maybe you don’t want to do it that two weeks,” Kleinschmidt said.
Kleinschmidt said he wishes his staff could have more time to prepare. For now, he is hoping improvements from earlier rollouts in larger counties like Wake and Mecklenburg will help avoid glitches with warrants and bond information.
