CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Chapel Hill Fire Department welcomed two new trucks to its fleet. These Carolina blue trucks will allow the fire department to have six engines and two ladder trucks in 2024. They are expected to have better lighting systems and an ergonomic design.

Deputy Chief Stacy Graves says the 2023 vehicles cost $700,000 each. Due to inflation, the chief says the cost of these trucks is expected to rise to $1 million in the near future.

They celebrated the newcomers with a symbolic “push-in” ceremony at two stations, 1003 Hamilton Road and 1615 E Franklin Street.

“You have an opportunity for the public to come look at the trucks and then at approximately 9:45, we’re going to have a push-in ceremony where we will symbolically push the truck to the bay, where they will be housed and where they’ll be running from, running calls from.”
