CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Students now have access to new generative AI software.

UNC Information Technology Services provided students with an update on AI policies in an email sent out at the end of February.

The email said that students now have access to Microsoft Copliot and that this is a more secure generative AI tool than Chat GPT or Google Bard.

Students can access Microsoft Copliot by signing in with their UNC Microsoft account.

Faculty and staff already gained access to the program late last year.

Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer J. Michael Barker said about the updates to AI software at the University, “We’re providing the opportunity for people to become more familiar (with the technology). Broad familiarity is a win.”
