CHAPEL HILL, N.C.- Pitch Perfect? More like perfect pitch.
Quarterfinal champions, the Tarpeggios sung their way to victory. UNC’s premiere a cappella group delivered a stellar performance that brought home a win at the International Championship of Collegiate A Capella.
Founded back in 2010, UNC’s youngest a cappella group is making its mark with two of their performers also taking home outstanding soloist awards. One of these winners is junior Elena Holder.
“It was so electric, and we were so excited because we worked so hard, so it was really validating everything we had been working towards,” Holder said.
This is the third time the Tarps have won the quarterfinals. They have nearly 20 members, 12 of which participated in the competition. Over the years, Holder says they’ve worked hard to make their arrangements more complex.
Their president Kai Turik says for them this moment is unforgettable.
“Coming off the stage, the amount of emotions emitting from all the group members, it’s a moment I will never forget because we were all just hugging each other and being in that moment sharing so much love with each other,” Turik said..
The team says the only thing better than the taste of victory is each other.
“To me what sets us apart is we are truly a family. We are all best friends, and we hang out all the time,” Holder said.
Holder says joining the Tarps was the best decision she could have made for her college career and encourages others to do the same.
