CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Recent court documents show new information regarding the deadly car crash that resulted in the death of UNC student Molly Rotunda, 20, last month. According to a search warrant, UNC student Flemeeja Brewer, 20, the driver of the vehicle, was speeding at 124 miles per hour, in a 45 mile per hour lane before the vehicle flipped.
Among the items found in the car were a fake Texas ID bearing Brewer’s name and an open container of Crown Royal whiskey. Court records indicate that Brewer’s blood alcohol content was .15, nearly double the legal limit. As a result, Brewer faces multiple charges including felony death by vehicle, driving while impaired, driving after consuming alcohol under the age of 21 and involuntary manslaughter and is scheduled to appear in court in April 30.
The investigation has also led to charges against ten individuals, including three UNC football players: Zachary Rice, 20, Travis Shaw, 19 and Malaki Hamarick, 19. Rice was reportedly traveling behind Brewer’s car before the accident and charged with driver after consuming under 21 years old, consume/possess alcohol under 21 years old and exceeding a posted speed limit. He is scheduled to appear in court March 7. Shaw and Hamarick were charged with underage possession/consumption of alcohol. Shaw also faces a separate charge regarding the possession of marijuana.
Additionally, two employees at Still Life, UNC students Karissa Webb, 22, Annelle McNair, 24 are facing charges for serving alcohol to minors. Their charges include several counts of sell/give alcohol to minors
