CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – On Feb. 15, Kevin Robinson, senior manager of park operations, and his team held a second town meeting on the new inclusive playground set to be built in Spring 2025. This park is expected to feature new color patterns, ramps, shade structures, and picnic tables to allow children of all social, cognitive and physical abilities to enjoy.

“It’s been a council goal for a long time, and we finally got the funding from ARPA, America Rescue Plan,” said Robinson. “We’re excited to move forward with the planning and design of the project.”

This project was approved by the town council using ARPA funding of almost $800,000.

Chapel Hill currently contains nine playgrounds with some accessibility features.

This playground is supposed to accomplish more inclusivity for varying abilities.

The majority of funding is intended for inclusive playground equipment at the Chapel Hill Community Center Playground. $285,000 will be set aside for system-wide playground accessibility upgrades for existing playgrounds.
