CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – With student elections for this year in the books, the new office will have to take on the work left by their previous administration.

Student Body Vice President Rebecca Sengal said UNC Student Government has a long list of responsibilities, including working with courses registration policies and hosting events for students.

“There were free headshots this semester and last semester,” said Sengal. “All kind of opportunities for students to engage with the resources of the university.”

Sengal said she works with Hardship Parking, where she helped decide which students require on-campus parking the most. She said she also appoints students to advisory boards such as campus health, buildings and grounds and others so they can tackle issues at the source. On top of those duties, Sengal said she also meets with the Chancellor, Provost, and the Dean of the College of the Arts and Sciences to give them advice to better the student experience.

But she said her favorite part of her job responsibilities are the people who care about UNC.

“They care so much about students, like nobody is doing this work because it pays really well or it’s going to build your resume,” said Sengal. “It’s really people who are here because they care a lot of about making these changes, and that’s really energizing for me.”
