CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Palestinians are now fleeing Gaza’s southernmost city.
Right on the border with Egypt, the city of Rafah endured airstrikes after Israeli forces carried out an operation where more than a million displaced Palestinians sought refuge.
This all comes after negotiation talks are circling in Middle Eastern countries- including Egypt. Egyptian officials have condemned the Israelis for carrying out attacks in the southern Gaza Strip but have yet to comment on intervention efforts.
What led up to this?
The Israeli defense forces carried out a hostage rescue operation in southern Gaza, rescuing two hostages kidnapped by Hamas and killing almost 100 Palestinians during the airstrikes.
Since the October 7th attacks, according to the United Nations, nearly 1.5 million Palestinians evacuated to Rafah.
Palestinians in Rafah are now fleeing again in fear of possible attacks.
