CHAPEL HILL, N.C — On Dec. 12, The Edition on Rosemary announced that the apartment building had passed inspections and can officially move in residents. This date arrived much later than expected as future residents planned to access the building in Aug. 2023.

While some students decided to end their leases when news about the delay first arose, other optimistic tenats, like UNC-CH senior Gavin Oliveri, held onto hope that they could move in before the end of the year.

“I mean, you kind of take a risk signing a lease to a place that’s not built yet,” said Oliveri. “So, I always knew it could be a possibility.”

Oliveri said he decided to stick with his lease from The Edition and at the AC hotel while the construction continued. He said that living close to campus was preferrable, but he was forced to move out on weekends when the university had home football games.

“Definitely stressful,” said Oliveri, recalling the experience. “Especially when you have midterms going on, you know, all the stuff going on with your classes, working a part time job. It got to be a lot to handle.”

Oliveri said he was relieved when he got the notification that he could move in for the spring semester.

“It’s a nice place now and they definitely took their time on it,” said Oliveri. “But things could definitely go a little bit different, especially with regards to communication.”

Oliveri said he is now fully moved in to The Edition and enjoys his apartment with four roommates.
