DURHAM, N.C. – Over one hundred people gathered at Southern Boundaries Park in Durham on Saturday to help combat the issues surrounding homelessness.
Open Table Ministries (OTM) hosted Its annual “Walk in their Shoes” 5k and Fun Run.
“We are helping six families meet their goals to move from unstable living situations,” says OTM Executive Director Dan Woten.
Money raised went toward OTM outreach efforts, including stabilization plans for homeless families. Founder of OTM Carolyn Schuldt notes that genuine connections built with the unsheltered are the driving factor of OTM.
“Developing relationships with folks so they will trust us to help them get connected with health care, mental health care, addiction recovery, and housing,” Schuldt says.
Participants had the chance to walk or run to raise awareness for the growing need for the unsheltered.
