CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — North Carolina Speaker of the House Tim Moore says that this will be his last term in the House.

Moore told reporters on Thursday that we will not seek another House term in 2024. He previously said that this would be his last term as Speaker in July.

Moore says he will finish his current term, which runs through 2024, and will oversee the budget-adjusting session that begins next spring.

He has not said whether he will run for another office in 2024. In July he showed interest in running for other elected offices. During the 2021 redistricting process, he weighed a run for Congress, but ultimately decided against it.

Moore, who represents Cleveland County, was first elected to the House in 2002. In 2022, he was elected to his fifth term as Speaker, the most in North Carolina history.

Several current House Republicans have already said they will run for Speaker in 2025, including Majority Leader John Bell, Rules Committee Chairman Destin Hall, and Freedom Caucus Chairman Keith Kidwell.
