CHAPEL HILL, N.C – The 19th annual Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival is coming back to Pittsboro from May 4th to May 7th. the Shakori festival takes place at the Shakori Hills Community Arts Center and was founded by a group of local musicians, activists and artists who were inspired by the original grassroots festival held in upstate New York. The festival began as a spring festival in 2003 and was added as a fall festival in 2004.  

The festival’s capacity has grown over the past two decades, and now they see close to ten thousand people in a weekend. The four-day festival brings in a generous amount of revenue for the town. The influx of visitors from around the region and beyond boosts the local economy as festival-goers patronize shops, hotels and restaurants.  

Shakori sells single-day passes and four-day passes with prices ranging based on the date of purchase from $125 to $180 for a four-day pass and $39 to $67 for single-day passes. These tickets give you access to see over 40 bands spanning worldwide traditional styles and genres. In addition to the music, the festival has music and dance workshops, a sustainability fair, kids’ activities, and food and craft vending with local food trucks and artisans.
