CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The next American Idol could be a Tar Heel.

North Carolinians Elijah McCormick and Ashley Tankard will be heading to the main stage in the musical contest. After wowing judges with their performances, both McCormick and Tankard were awarded golden tickets. The honor lets them compete with other top contenders to become the next American Idol.

McCormick, a Raeford native, sang Rascal Flatt’s “God Bless the Broken Road.” Tankard, a Durham native, finally secured a golden ticket after 15 attempts.

Their next appearance will be this Sunday on ABC. New episodes are available on Hulu the next day.
