CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A new shopping center along U.S. Highway 15-501 is set to open this summer.
The plaza, 501 Landing, will include retail, medical, and office space and will feature two 7,200 square foot buildings with 12 suites.
Half of the suites have already been leased to tenants including Seeds of Wonder Spanish Immersion Daycare, Ignite Wellness Chiropractic Center and Mi’s Nail Spa.
Originally a designated residential zone, the parcel of land was rezoned for commercial purposes in 2021 as part of the 2017 Chatham Country Comprehensive Plan, Plan Chatham, a plan to target areas for commercial development.
The Chatham County Planning Board and many residents initially opposed the rezoning due to concerns surrounding its close proximity to existing residential developments and its competitiveness to other land parcels that had already been rezoned for commercial purposes.
Despite this, the project still pulled through because of its strategic location.
