CHAPEL HILL, NC – The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Student Body President candidate Sam Robinson dropped out of the election twenty-four hours after being a certified candidate on the ballot.
His statement on his social media account says that he felt like he didn’t see himself fit to be UNC’s Student Body President. Shortly after that, student-run organizations on campus that endorsed him withdrew their endorsements, ranging from prominent student figures of Campus Y to the UNC Young Democrats.
It has been unclear as to why Robinson dropped out of the race so suddenly, with several unconfirmed claims spreading around social media platforms.
However, over the weekend, Robinson applied to become a justice of the UNC Student Supreme Court after stepping down as undergraduate Student Body Vice President. His acceptance or decline into the court will be heard on Feb. 28.
