CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – After the recent shooting at Michigan State University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill leaders were being questioned about the safety practices and procedures for students, staff and faculty.  

The administrators told CBS 17 that the procedures and practices are constantly being updated and fine-tuned in the event of a campus shooting or any other threat of safety on campus.  

The use of Alert Carolina to send out emails and text messages to those who opted to receive the alerts are one of the many things being improved, along with blasting and practicing the six alert siren towers across campus. 

Leaders and directors look at plans when events, such as Michigan State University, they look at the plans to see if there are areas of improvements.  

While it is not easy to make major changes since the university is public, the safety leaders are looking at what to do to better improve the safety of their students, staff and faculty.
