CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Since 2019, the University “Master Plan” has included a 15-year-old timeline for on campus construction and designs. The enforcement of the plan was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic but now major renovations are on the way.

Residence halls like Avery are set to undergo major renovations including HVAC-systems, elevators and new accessible showers. Construction is scheduled to begin in May 2024, according to a report by the Daily Tar Heel.

In addition to Avery, both Parker and Teague Residence Halls could also be looking at similar large-scale renovations and even the possibility of being demolished and replaced by new buildings.

Additionally, the currently unoccupied South Campus’ Odum Village is intended to be a part of the “Campus South Hub” zone, outlined in the Master Plan.

January 30th was the last day to give feedback on the quality of residence hall living. In an email sent to students on Sunday Carolina Housing announced details of a  “Grand Prize” for respondents. According to the email, the prize will entail “a private party in the Carolina Gaming Arena”.
