CHAPEL HILL, NC – An update on a shooting less than a mile from UNC’s campus that left one person dead and three injured, including a pregnant woman. at least 10 shots were fired into a building at university gardens apartments on Pritchard Avenue Extension.

Many students expressed concern about their safety….

“Just hearing the noises and seeing that family’s reaction to losing a loved one is something I’ll never forget. it was a very awful experience” says UNC student, Noah Price.

There was also concern about the delay in police response time….

“We didn’t really know what was going on. no one was giving us information and the police didn’t show up for probably… 10 minutes after we had called…” explains Emma Patterson, a resident of Pritchard Avenue.

Chapel Hill police released an update about the case on September 28th saying in part… 

“The victim of the homicide is Michael Deshai lee, 51, of chapel hill. the three injured victims are expected to survive.”

Just last night the u.s. marshals with the Carolina regional fugitive task force arrested 29-year-old Michael henry. He was arrested on 5 charges… including murder. Henry is currently in custody at the orange county detention center without bond.
