GREENSBORO, NC – The Southern Baptist Convention cut two churches from affiliation with their denomination including College Park Baptist Church during their meeting on DAY at their headquarters in Nashville.

Jared Wellman, chairman of the SBC referred to College Park Baptist Church as, “outside the bounds of fellowship” and pointed to the church’s open affirmation of homosexual behavior as their deciding factor to cut them from affiliation.

College Park Baptist Church is across the street from UNC Greensboro’s campus, and self-describes as a, “welcoming, LGBTQIA affirming baptist church.” The church has not claimed affiliation with the SBC for many years.

There are 12 Southern Baptist Convention affiliated churches in the greater Chapel Hill Community. None are openly LGBTQ-friendly.
