CHAPEL HILL, NC – The United Kingdom remains in a period of national mourning following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The late Queen was born in 1926 and ruled for over 70 years. This makes her the longest reigning monarch in British history.
Many people crowded around Buckingham Palace to pay tribute to their queen. Including UNC student Carolina May, who is studying abroad this semester.
“I will always remember, you know, just going up to Buckingham Palace and seeing all of those flowers and just all of those people there. we were in London, and so we could all just go and see what was happening for ourselves” said May.
Queen Elizabeth II passed peacefully at Balmoral Castle surrounded by her family, according to Buckingham Palace…her funeral is set for Monday.
