Building a Strong Foundation in Lab Safety and Tool Proficiency
Fab Lab 101 is a foundational training program specifically designed for graduate and undergraduate students working in research labs at the Biomedical Engineering Fabrication Lab (BME Fab Lab). With a strong emphasis on safety and tailored instruction based on individual skill levels, this program equips participants with essential knowledge and skills to utilize power tools effectively and confidently.
During the training, participants will embark on a guided tour of our cutting-edge BME Fab Lab. This immersive experience allows them to explore and understand the diverse capabilities and resources available in our facility. They will gain insight into our state-of-the-art equipment, including the drill press, bandsaw, grinder, and other essential power tools.
Safety is of paramount importance, and our training focuses on providing a solid foundation in lab safety practices. Participants will learn proper safety protocols, including the correct usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) and understanding its importance in minimizing risks. They will also be guided on how to secure their workpieces effectively for grinding and drilling processes, ensuring stability and precision during tool operations.
