3D Printing Orientation
Empowering Research Labs with Additive Manufacturing Skills
Our comprehensive 3D Printing Orientation program is designed to equip graduate and undergraduate students working in research labs with the essential skills and knowledge to leverage the power of additive manufacturing. With a focus on our Ultimaker S5 and Formlabs Form 2 printers, this training is tailored to optimize productivity and ensure successful 3D printing outcomes.
During the orientation, participants will gain hands-on experience with industry-standard software such as Cura for the Ultimaker S5 and Preform for the Formlabs Form 2. They will be introduced to slicing software, learning how to download STL files and prepare them for printing. Emphasis will be placed on effective object orientation and support generation techniques, enabling optimal print quality and minimizing material wastage.
The training covers various topics including material selection and changing, troubleshooting common issues, and maintaining the printers for optimal performance. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the capabilities of our 3D printing scheduler, enabling efficient and organized usage of the printers within the lab environment.
Each training session lasts approximately 1 hour, providing a concise and focused learning experience. By the end of the orientation, participants will not only have gained a solid understanding of 3D printing principles but will also take home two printed objects as tangible evidence of their newfound skills.
In the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering, we understand the importance of integrating additive manufacturing into research endeavors. Through our 3D Printing Orientation program, we aim to empower graduate and undergraduate students in research labs, enabling them to unleash their creativity and drive innovation through the transformative capabilities of 3D printing technology.
