The symposium will take place over the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters with two bookend events and ongoing virtual discussions in between.

The first event will take place September 10 as a half-day virtual event.  Dr. Zeynep Tufekci will frame the discussion and two panels will ground the discussion for the key questions.  One panel will be composed of scholars who study work and technology and the other panel will be composed of people who do knowledge intensive work in diverse areas ranging from art to science.  Dr. Mohammad Jarrahi will co-organize and moderate the panels.  The discussions will serve as the basis for a set of ongoing virtual discussions as well as specific projects by faculty and students over the October 2021-February 2022 period.

In the Spring of 2022, a second symposium will take place with face-to-face and virtual components over a two-day period.  The UNC Center for Technology, Information, and Public Life (CITAP) will co-sponsor the events, with the possibility of other organizations joining in. The proceedings of the two symposia events and the intervening results will be collected and shared broadly.
