About the host institution
The UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media’s mission is to prepare students to ignite the public conversation in our state, the nation and the world, and to understand the role of communication in fostering democracy.
The school is known for its strength from the doctoral level through its undergraduate program and its balance of both scholarly and professional achievement. UNC Hussman boasts nine selections for the nation’s top dissertation in the field and 13 Hearst Journalism Awards national championships. Both totals rank first among all universities.
UNC Hussman is home to the Center for Innovation and Sustainability in Local Media, the Communicating for Health Impact Lab, UNC Blue Sky Innovations, the NC Media & Journalism Hall of Fame and the North Carolina Scholastic Media Association. Its scholars contribute to interdisciplinary research in UNC-Chapel Hill’s Center for Media Law and Policy and Center for Information, Technology, and Public Life.
