Rear Passenger Corner Repairs

Once the rear lighting nasals were removed from the car, it was an easy task to disassemble them for clean up and rust removal. I separated the rear plate where the lighting mounts from the nasal by removing a couple spot welds. A little wire brushing and a soak in Rust911 left them rust free and ready for reassembly. I decided to remake the mounting plates since they were so simple and had suffered significant rust damage. All I need to do here is to drill out the mounting holes and punch out the rectangle.

Once the nasal bits came out of the Rust911 it was clear that a rather bizarre rust pattern had compromised a strip of it. I fabricated a repair piece and cut out the rot. Here is it tack welded into place.

and finish welded.

My tig welding skills had gotten a bit rusty, so I’m OK with these results. Once I get the fingers working again, the quality should improve a bit. This piece has now been trial fitted and tweaked to fit the original inclosure. I’m treating the seams to remove the sandwich rust, then these will go back in to their location.
